Nick Cusumano is a GOOGLE Innovator with people and perspective at the heart of his work!

nick cusumano

I had the opportunity to sit in a GOOGLE Classroom session with Nick Cusumano at EdCamp STL (watch our sit down interview here). Nick is a great guy who began his career as a film/theatre teacher and eventually became the Director of Instructional Technology for the Fort Zumwalt School District in Saint Louis, MO. His journey is an interesting one. Nick says that he was always interested in technology and used it in his practice where he could from the beginning. When GOOGLE began certifying educators, Nick decided that he would go after it and find a way to use the tools in his theatre classroom. In addition to using technology tools with students, Nick also wanted staff in his district to realize the potential of the technology in their possession. In his free time he offered workshops for interested teachers to give them more exposure to technology and its classroom applications.

That persistence paid off and he became a GOOGLE Certified Innovator and he was able to help his district transition fully to GOOGLE tools when the time came in the role of Director of Instructional Technology.

Nick Cusumano is in his 23rd year in education currently serving as the Director of Instructional Technology for the Fort Zumwalt School District in St. Louis Missouri. Nick is a Google for Education Certified Innovator,Trainer, Educator Level 1 and 2 and Google Apps Certified Administrator and a Google Geo Teacher. In the May of 2013, he was selected to attend the Google Innovators Academy in Sydney, Australia. He was named a 2014 Midwest Education Technology Conference Spotlight Educator. In May of 2017, he received the V.C. McCluer Award from Education Technology Association of St. Louis for Outstanding Personal Contributions to the Instructional Programs of the St. Louis Area Schools.
