Educator Alexander is a woman that I began to follow after reading about her on Twitter (@EdcuatorAlex). She is an education technology/blended learning consultant from Northern Louisiana. Naturally, after learning that she would be putting on an EdCamp in North Louisiana I had to go and meet her! After participating in #EdCampnLA and watching the interaction Educator Alexander had with teachers in Bossier Parrish and beyond, I knew that I had to sit down with her for this blog. Here is a bit about her. Educator Alexander like all of us began her career in the classroom. She was a middle school English teacher and later a librarian. Eventually she became district technology supervisor before leaving to start her own company Educator Alexander Consulting LLC. Under that name, she has managed to partner with Louisiana PBS, LACUE (Louisiana Computer Using Educators), and several others to provide interactive technology professional development for teachers across the state. Her drive is unstoppable and her passion is apparent. All of the teachers at EdCamp call her either “Desiree” or my favorite “Educator”. They respect her and her reputation looms large. Unlike some EdCamps that may seem like one off events, Educator Alexander creates a feeling of community with her teachers and her partners. She gave away Chromebooks, Spheros, gift cards (many, many of these) and more all donated by partners more than willing to support her work. If you are looking for a model for developing teachers and inviting the business community into the process I could not recommend anyone more highly. Reach out to Educator Alexander at email@example.com she ALWAYS replies! Tell her Dr. Kia sent you.
